2015 Starbucks/Black Hat Football: Oakdale High RB Brad Aquino is Medium-School MVP

RB BRAD AQUINO, Oakdale Mustangs

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior was a star in 2014 – on the Mustangs’ scout JW Oakdale vs Manteca 21team. He became a bonafide star early in the 2015 and piled up enough yards and touchdowns to become the most prolific runner at one of The 209’s legendary running programs. Aquino was the Valley Oak League Offensive Player of the Year.

Aquino carried 274 times in 14 games – the Mustangs were 13-1 and reached the Sac-Joaquin Division 3 final for the second year in a row — and set school records with 1,876 yards and 37 touchdowns. More impressive? As the fullback in the Wing-T scheme, Aquino was almost always carrying the ball between the tackles and right at the linebackers, and yet he didn’t lose a fumble in 2015.

He piled up those huge numbers, despite being in an offense that spread the ball between four players: RB Austin Burke 1,229 yards and 10 TDs (averaging 11.8 yards a carry), RB Robby DePuy had 851 yards and 8 TDs (averaging 116 yards per carry), and QB Adam Olsen had 1,584 yards and 17 TDs. Oakdale went 12-2, its only loss to three-time defending state champion Central Catholic in the VOL and Section title games.
