2015 Starbucks/Black Hat Football Team: Central Catholic LB Montell Bland

LB Montell Bland, Central Catholic Raiders

The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder was the star of Central Catholic’s State Unknown-9Championship Game two years ago as a running back. His injury early in 2014 opened the door for Justin Rice to take over the running duties, and Bland has since been able to focus on defense.

It’s been a great move Bland and the Raiders, as the junior has 78 tackles and eight sacks before Saturday’s 49-14 NorCal Bowl win over Marin Catholic. While his offensive snaps have been reduced, he’s still a threat on that side of the ball with a combined 542 yards and 14 TDs (rushing and receiving).
