Black Hat Football has a Tip of the Hat to Varni Brothers Corp. and Noah’s SpringNoah's Cans Water, key partners in our comprehensive coverage of high school football in The 209.

Each week, Black Hat visits a high school to deliver a bounty of Noah’s refreshing spring water. We know high school teams receiving the five hefty cases of Noah’s Spring Water — packed in 24-ounce, resealable cans — appreciate the timely delivery, as well.

NOAH’S SPRING WATER TEAM OF WEEK FOUR

East Union continued its season-opening win streak with a 26-14 win over Lathrop to open the Valley Oak League. EU pushed its record to 4-0 – its best start since the 2010 team went 7-3-1 – and visits crosstown rival Sierra (3-1) Friday.

The Lancers turned to their ground game to open league play with a win, as Isaiah Sholund had 31 carries for 148 yards and a TD. EU had a whopping 57 carries, while QB Jack Weaver threw for two TDs.

Joseph Reynaga had a dozen tackles, while Jake Harries had an interception.

The next two weeks are critical for EU, as its only trip to the playoffs this century ended in the first round in 2010. EU will need six wins – it’s virtually unheard of for a six-win team to miss the playoffs – to assure itself a postseason spot.

That means beating Kimball (1-3), and either Sierra (3-1) or Weston Ranch (3-1) for win No. 6. The other three foes are Manteca, Oakdale, Central Catholic – overwhelming favorites.
