About Black Hat Football and The 209

Welcome to Black Hat Football, run by award-winning journalist Richard T. Estrada. He’s been covering high school football in the Northern San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Foothills for  30 years.
Known for wearing his black cowboy hat while walking the sideline during games, Richard T. Estrada is the authority on high school football. He had 27 years experience covering football for The Modesto Bee, coordinating its coverage before leaving in 2012 to start his online media company.
He knows everything there is about the Modesto Metro Conference, UnknownCentral California Conference, San Joaquin Ahletic Association, Tri-City Athletic League, Valley Oak League, Western Athletic Conference, Trans-Valley League, Southern League, Mother Lode League, Central California Athletic Association and across the California Interscholastic Federation’s Sac-Joaquin Section.
Estrada mixes his passion for football, vast knowledge of the region’s sports history, connections to coaches and tireless commitment to promoting student-athletes to produce top-quality multimedia content – distributed free online.
It’s all football, all the time – including reporting on football combines, training camps, passing leagues and college recruiting. We’re first to tell you about coaching changes, player commitments, who’s beefing up their schedule and who is overhauling their offense.
Black Hat is packed with timely tweets, better-than-live videos, fun photos, constructive commentary, statistical analysis, insightful features and news-you-can-use to entertain and inform football players, coaches and fans.
Players can promote themselves here, too, by providing links to their game highlight videos and photos. And it’s all free – with no pesky pay walls or subscription fees to block your access 24-hours-a-day.
